Originally, origami is from China. Origami is known as the Japanese art of folding paper into objects without using glue. The most common object that can be folded using origami art is the crane. The material you need for origami is paper, but not just paper - fingers and folding bone or nails to help to crease the paper. The paper can be big or small, depending on how challenging you want it to be as the smaller the paper, the more challenging it becomes to do origami. There are people who try to do origami using the smallest piece of paper just to challenge their skills.

A more advanced origami involves moving origami. It simply means the object you have folded has motion, and is not just static. It is a new challenge and not many people can master it. The latest art of origami involving paper money is called moneygami. Moneygami is when you use paper currency and fold it into an object, using the origami art. Origami has been part of the Japanese culture since the monks from China brought some paper to Japan. Since then, origami has been expanding world wide with many people doing origami as their hobby.

Calligraphy is a type of artistic writing. There are many types of calligraphy, such as Chinese Calligraphy, Western Calligraphy, Indian Calligraphy and Persian Calligraphy. Calligraphy is also a type of hobby. Some people find satisfaction in the art of writing and are willing to spend time learning and improving their calligraphy skills. Calligraphy is interesting, especially when you know the history of it, then you will be able to enjoy it more.

Chinese Calligraphy, or Asian Calligraphy, uses ink brushes to write the Chinese characters. In Chinese schools, calligraphy is a compulsory subject, so students can learn the art of Chinese Calligraphy. Chinese literati are also expected to be excellent calligraphers, as a good example for the students. To learn Chinese Calligraphy, you need to have different sizes of brush, black or red ink, and plain white paper.

Western Calligraphy is recognised by the use of the Roman alphabet. For Indian Calligraphy, birch bark was commonly used as the writing surface while the Indic manuscripts were written on palm leaves. Persian Calligraphy used to provide inscriptions for the kings. Persian Calligraphy is also known as the ‘Script of Nails’ due to the fact that the scripts are horizontal, vertical and diagonal nail-shaped letters.

To start calligraphy all you need is a good supply of pens, brushes and paper. Then you are ready to showcase your talent in calligraphy.

Cosplay is the shortened term for ‘costume play’. It is a subculture from Japan that focuses on dressing as the anime characters or manga characters, video games’ characters and fantasy movies’ characters. However, now cosplay can be simply wearing costumes. However, cosplay costumes are different from halloween costumes as cosplay costumes are more detailed and fancy. Usually cosplay costumes come with a weapon or accessories, exactly same as the characters they portray. The costumes can be so detailed and elaborate that the cosplayers will gather in events or functions to admire each other’s costumes, and perhaps discuss the characters and other things associated with cosplay.

To be a cosplayer, you must be prepared to spend time and money constructing your costume, which might take weeks or months to get done. You will either do it all by yourself or you can hire a seamstress to do everything for you, but the fun part of being a cosplayer is that you build your own costume. The fun is in the process of making it, not just wearing it and showcasing it. However, to make a costume, it will cost a lot of money. To make an excellent costume will cost even more money and time, so it is not easy. If you truly have the passion and what it takes to be a cosplayer, then all you have to do is enjoy the hobby.

Gardening is growing plants to get their flowers or vegetables. Gardening can be done anywhere, as long as there is soil. Usually people who take up gardening will lay out a garden in their lawn, whether they want to grow flowers or vegetables. However, now you can start gardening anywhere you want - be it on the rooftop, balcony, in an atrium, patio and also in a window box. The options are getting wider. So what is the difference between gardening and farming? Both activities involve plants but gardening is a more leisurely activity that is done for entertainment, and fun whereas farming is for commercial use.

Impact gardening is using a small space to optimise the plants. Indoor gardening is growing house plants within a house or building. Water gardening is planting water plants in ponds or pools. Container gardening is growing plants in different pots and baskets. Community gardening involves a large area of land that is maintained by a group of people. However, beware of pests while gardening, as the pests such as insects might cause the whole garden to die off. The basic gardening tools and necessities include soil, seeds, fertilizers and also a hoe for digging the soil.

Bird lovers usually love bird watching. It is an activity where you observe or study the birds with the naked eye or binoculars. Most professional birdwatchers use binoculars to help them observe better and learn more. Besides, by using binoculars, you can observe birds from a distance without having to disturb them. If you’re not using the binoculars, then you can observe the birds from a bird watching tower.

The best time to observe birds is during their migration season. During migration, you will be able to see many birds of different species. Also, during migration, you will be able to see birds better in the early morning, as it is when the birds are looking for food therefore making it easier to spot them and observe them closely. Seawatching is also another type of birdwatching. It is an observation of birds that fly over the sea.

There are quite a number of associations dealing with bird watching, such as the British Trust for Ornithology and Royal Society for the Protection of Birds in the UK - they help to gather all the birdwatchers to share and leartn. To start bird watching, you don’t need to have anything special, but it would be better if you can get binoculars (with or without a tripod).
